The European football race to the title 2015/2016

There are about 2 months left to play for all the main European football leagues and the race to the title is still strong in many of them.

In the English Premier League Leicester are the top club, leading the league with a comfortable 5 points advantage over the 2nd Tottenham Hotspur. Slightly below there are Arsenal and Manchester city missing 11 and 12 points from the top, but with an extra match to play. Leicester are definitely the favourite club at the moment, but with 8 matches still to play much can happen.

In the German Bundesliga Bayern Munich are leading with 66 points after 26 matches. Borussia Dortmund are the only contender and even if the 5 points gap doesn’t seem too bad with 8 matches remaining, it’s quite unlikely they will make it considering the dominance of Bayern Munich in the last 3 years and in this season as well.

In the Italian Serie A there’s a close fight between Juventus, currently leading, and Napoli, former head of the table until few weeks ago when they lost away to Juventus. The 3rd place is occupied by Roma, but even if they are leading the form table these days it’s quite unlikely they will get any closer to the title. At the moment Juventus seem to be favourite, but there are still 9 matches to play and a lot can change.

In the Portuguese Liga NOS the first 2 clubs Benfica and Sporting Lisbon are separated only by 2 points after 26 matches. The 3rd position is held by FC Porto which are missing 6 points from the leader. Even if the gap between the first 2 clubs is pretty narrow Benfica have slightly easier fixtures ahead and they should be able to keep the current advantage.

In the Spanish La Liga Barcelona have a 8 point lead over the closest contender Atletico Madrid and a 12 point lead over Real Madrid currently 3rd. There are still 9 matches to play, but considering Barcelona form it looks extremely unlikely that Atletico Madrid will be able to get even closer to them.

In the Turkish Super Lig there’s probably the most interesting challenge, with Fenerbahce and Besiktas separated only by 1 point and 9 matches still to play. Something like that will definitely make an interesting end of season for all the fans of Turkish football.
